If you're a 'The Simpsons' fan . . . and if you live in Portland, Oregon you know that Matt Groening was born here and grew up here. He attened Ainsworth Elementary, and Lincoln High.
But did you know . . . that many of Matt Groening's characters are based on his life here in Portland.
It dawned on me, one day, when I was on Terwilliger Blvd., crossing over Lovejoy St., passing Kearney St., heading over to Montgomary Park by taking a left on Burnside heading over to Quimby St., then gong to NW Flanders St . . .
Names sound familiar?
They should. Notable characters: Ned Flanders, Rev. Lovejoy, Mayor Quimby, Bob Terwilliger, Montgomery Burns . . .
A coincidence??

I suspect it's not a coincidence, but I've never been a fan of The Simpsons. My friends talked me into watching one episode and that was all it took....
I didn't like it at first, now I'm a fan.
Hi Carla,
There is a Canadian connection also as some of the writers are from Canada. They have used Toronto in the shows in the past. Funny, eh???
I really didn't care for it at first either but, now...yes I do watch.
Interesting bit of trivia. Thnaks for sharing the Portland connection.
Hey Jenny -- that is funny, eh! Our wonderful neighbors to the North . . .
Hi Tom . . . trivia . . . yup!! :-)
Roberta LaRocca (here in vegas, one of my collegues) wrote a blog post about a house in Henderson with the Simpson ties too! You guys should link up your posts ;)
You can reblog this to her? Feel free Renee.
I was unaware of this, but obviously with the street names around town, you can certainly see where the names in the show come from.
I have never really watched the Simpsons but my husband does occasionally and I am surprised at how many years it has been on. Interesting bit of trivia.
