What's YOUR State's Motto?
I'm posing this question after reading a blog by AR blogger: Patricia Aulson. She's a New Hampshire real estate agent, and she quoted her state's motto: Live free or die!
I kinda like that motto. I'd rather live free . . .
Which got me thinking about my State, Oregon. I honestly didn't know what our motto was, so I looked it up.
Alis Volat Propiis is Latin and translated to English means: She flies on her own wings!
How very appropriate. At least personally. I fly on my own wings too!
Oregon was admitted to the Union Feb. 14, 1859.
How sweet! We, therefore, should be officially known as: The VALENTINE STATE!

This blog should have been posted July 4th this year -- our Nation's Birthday. But, I didn't think about it 'til now.

Hi Carla, Florida didn't have a motto, so on July 1, 2006 they adopted In God We Trust as their motto.
Hi Renee -- I read your comment, and then later yesterday wathed Jeapardy! which I have Tivo'd. And guess what? One of the questions was about the motto of Nevada! I knew it was "The Silver State" ;-)

Sandy . . . WOW! Didn't know that about Florida -- no motto! I LOVE what they did with . . . their motto!! In GOD we Trust!! Nice!
Ours used to be "Don't Tread on Me!" Now our motto seems to just involve a series of hand gestures and horns honks that are displayed on all our interstates.
Now that I have the joke out of the way, here we go. "Dum Spiro Spero" While I breathe I hope.

I had to laugh so hard when I read JL's post... I think that motto is the motto of most states these days.
Carla, DC is not a state, but we do have a motto: "Taxation without Representation!" since we do not have representation in Congress.
