Buyers Agent Portland - YOUR Exclusive Buyers Agent: Defendant No. 8

Defendant No. 8

This past Tuesday I had an interesting day.  I was known as "Defendant No. 8."  This is how one is referred to when appearing on the Judge Joe Brown show.  Plaintiff No. 1, Defendant No. 5, etc.  My case was the 8th of the day . . . hence, Defendant No. 8.

Not sure if "fun"  is the way to put it, but when Todd (associate producer) called to ask if I would appear, I immediately said . . . NO!!

Then, after several days of mulling it over, I relented.  I knew my case was strong, even though a named defendant.  I was in the right, but would Judge Joe Brown rule in my favor?

The fact that Defendant No. 8 prevailed is beside the point.  What was fascinating was how Judge Joe Brown works his show.  Standing before him he talked for 40 minutes . . . and yet, to me, the time flew by.  And I mean that.  I was standing before a great Orator . . . the epitome of that word.  I felt I was  listening to a Greek philosopher of ancient times.  I can only imagine, back in the day, when technology hadn't been invented, the spoken word which was so celebrated and used as a form of teaching, influence and entertainment . . . was an art form.  And Judge Joe Brown has this art form -- public speaking / oration -- down pat.  It was amazing for me to listen to him.

I imagine that there has to be edits made to make for good TV.  Hmmm . . . What makes for good TV in an unscripted format??  Well, for one thing, having wonderful dialouge to go through.  And that's when you get a great orator.

It was an honor for me to listen to Judge Joe Brown give his orations.  His ability to discourse in public speaking is bar none.  Yes, he focused on the case, but went into so much rich information, expounding on "common law," the obligations of a landlord, which he then gave me quite a compliment and stated, "Landlady."

He acknowledged me as a Realtor® and commented about the nature of the current market, the hardships of many.  If only you could have been there with me.  You would have felt the same admiration I have for this man.  He truly is a genuine individual who understands the depths of issues that afflict and affect people.  He understands, with his heart, and his spirit -- and then -- his Orations.  OMIGOSH!!  From his deep understandings he voices his concerns, positions, and beliefs with such convictions and resolute knowledge.

It was a real honor for me.  Again -- not because Defendant No. 8 prevailed.  I could have stayed here, gone to small claims court and got the same results (I had a strong hand, wink).  But to listen to Judge Joe Brown orate . . . truly beautiful to listen to.

Most people have a hard time understanding Shakespeare's plays.  I akin Judge Joe Brown's discourse, his orations to be on that grand scale . . . combined with the Greek philosophers' of ancient past.  Like a play written by Shakespeare, and the speeches made by Socrates, the art of the spoken word flowed so effortlessly from Judge Joe Brown.

The people in audience are paid to be there.  I hope they can appreciate the level of intellect they are getting paid to hear.  I felt the audience should be law students.  They would certainly gain some very good legal perceptions, and similar to the time of ancient Greek philosopher's, the would be seated at the foot of a great Orator!!

I'm serious, I don't even want to paraphrase what I heard.  I'd botch it up.

It was truly an honor for me.

It sounds like a once in a life time experience! Sometimes we take a chance and it turns out that we get to hear or see something really amazing.

He is an impressive guy;  had a tough inner-city childhood, yet rose to the top...he truly is remarkable.  Glad you had the chance to see him person!  And kudos for the win.

Hi Phly . . . it was, indeed, one of those moments.  Rare to have a pleasant outcome these days.

Hey Susan -- I had a good case, so the win wasn't a surprise.  Meeting Judge Joe Brown, and listening to him was great.  I didn't even realize he had a tough back-ground until my son told me about a week ago.

Hi Deborah . . . yikes!

Hey Deborah -- yes, it's too bad the entirety isn't available, and the show is edited to fit the format.  A lot of wealth and knowledge in that man.

Hi Jenna . . . It was 40 mins. but passed so quickly.  You know you're engrossed in something when time flies.

I would have LOVED to have been there. I've never heard of the Judge Joe Brown Show.  So ... does this mean you are going to be on TV?

Posted by Cynthia Larsen - Sonoma County Real Estate Broker (707-332-2560 www.safehavenrealty.com) almost 2 years ago

Hi Cynthia . . . I don't watch much daytime TV, but have seen the show, and liked Judge Joe Brown over the others.  I will be on TV.  Don't know the air time, tey send out a postcard when it's scheduled.  What you see on TV is the edited versions.  I found it truly dynamic (in the entirety).  My little house will be on TV too!  :-)

OK, be SURE to let us know when it will be on the air. I never watch daytime TV but DVR's are great to have for shows like that. That's your house? I thought yours had a red door!

I hope you won't be too famous to remember us little folks . . .

Hi Carla, That's super cool!! I often wondered how those TV court shows were produced. I had a tool time gadget segment on our local NBC news for about 7 years and it was a blast! Boy...the possibilities....will they send you a tape? (I'd ask for one) maybe you could post to your blog/website. Congratulation on prevailing :) jay

LOL @Richard - Touche! I LOVE my new title, a DVRing Plaintiff! Better than a few other titles I've had, that's for sure. PMSing B**** comes to mind. You are a hoot!  CARLA - Sorry about the comments not being about your blog. My bad, I started it.

Yeah, Cynthia -- Carla ought to bang her gavel down and demand order in this court!

(Being a native New Yorker, I'm guessing you meant PMSing Bagel)

Carla - I have on only a ew occasions in my life had the pleasure of hearing someone speak with this type of charisma and depth.  It's one heck of an experience when you hear someone speak this way in person so I have a good idea what you mean.  I wish I could have that type of impact when I open my mouth.  Instead I have the word Nike imprinted on the roof of my mouth! LOL  Congratualtions and thanks for sharing!

Hi Cynthia . . . this is a little rental I have.  I bought it in 1995.

Hey Karen -- it was interesting!

Hi Richard . . . it'll be my <15 min. of fame.  HA HA HA

You and Cynthia are punny today!!

Order . . . Order in the blog!!

I'm actually sorry I missed the banter

Hey Jay -- You are the TOOL TIME of our Active Rain!!  How fun that must have been!

Hi Nevin . . . I'm so glad you know this type of speech/oration.  It's very rare.  I enjoyed my 40 mins. in court TV.  I'm sure the a-hole Plaintiffs were in virtual hell.  GOOD!!  It was probably the LONGEST 40 minutes in their life, and 85% of what was sad went way over their heads.

Hey Jane -- I was sued in small claims court when I did not return $500 in the rental of the above-referenced property.  The tenants signed an Agreement to Execute the rental agreement (consider it like their earnest money) and then wanted to move their buddy in.  I told them he could move in, but would be a tenant, and rent would go up $150/month if buddy moved in.  They didn't want the rent to go up with the buddy moving in, but INSISTED I rent to them with him as their guest, and staying indefinately.  The terms and conditions of the rental agreement would not have changed -- ONLY if they moved their buddy in.  They didn't want to rent from me, so they lost their $500.  I was out an entire month of rent because of these jerkwads. I should have counter-sued.  Why they brought in a third-party is beyond me.  Judge Joe Brown is syndicated and ranks pretty high.

Carla, I'm so glad you won...and understood what the judge was talking about.

Jane, we have so many judge shows airing all day that unfortunately he is just one of many in the heavy rotation.

I am not a fan of small-claims court shows, BUT will watch when our girl is on giving the judicial smackdown to the tenants who tried to pull a fast one!

Carla, it sounds like it was a great experience to say the least!  I personally don't like those type of shows, but that doesn't mean that the players in them aren't greatly qualified.  I may hesitate a little longer the next time that I am flipping channels and land on his show!

Carla - Sounds like an interesting experience.  You'll have to alert us when the show is to air.

Posted by John Mulkey, Housing Guru (TheHousingGuru.com) almost 2 years ago

Hi Andi . . . "the judicial smackdown"  HA HA HA -- you're so funny!

Hey Tony & Darcy -- that's the ODD thing, because they aren't my cup 'o tea either.  BUT . . . when you're behind the scenes and see the effort it takes to get some good sound bites, and TV time . . . it's not a tawdry display of dirty laundry anymore.  It's too bad TV is always dumbed down, because the real beauty of that show is what pearls of wisdom Judge Joe Brown has to offer, his insights, etc.  Most of it lost on the cutting room floor, I'm afraid.

Hi John . . . I will let you know!

Carla ~ how did this even end up on the show.  Was that something the jerkwads tenants wanted?  Keep us informed on the airing.  Where is Judge Joe Brown located?  In Seattle?  And in regards to your post, it's interesting how some folks just are great speakers.  I think it's a talent.

Posted by Dawn A Fabiszak, CRS, GRI, SFR, CNE Servicing Arapahoe County over 18 yrs (Keller Williams Real Estate ( Denver metro area, Colorado) almost 2 years ago

Hi Dawn . . . I'm not sure how this ended up there.  Maybe the tenants called up the show??  I don't know much about Judge Joe Brown other than the Wikipedia.org mention, which states he lives in Tennessee and LA.  The show is produced in the heart of Hollywood ;-)
